A Course for Action

I conceive that there is indeed a problem of commitment to action for our future. These thoughts diminish hope; however, if we as a society can improve the commitment to action for our future, then hope will be set in motion. To do this everyone must believe that their actions, no matter how small, are helping our environment and our cause to exist. Large corporations must also step in and make their efforts sustainable; without large corporations on board, our planet will remain in peril. At this rate, our situation will only improve if humanity ceases to exist. I believe that there can be hope. My sense of this phenomenon is similar to that of a child’s imagination and view of the world because one must be positive. Hope is a state of mind. If enough people unite in this cause to save our planet, the possibility will present itself.

How might one do this through reading literature one might ask? When writing about literature, there is no one vital perception that everyone must extract from it; there are many interpretations. Taking action with these theories I have introduced or made more concrete for you will involve shifting values or thinking in new or more open minded ways. These actions will not have immediate effects on our society, but with time some of these changes that we implement may assist our species in helping our world thrive.

Relating to both posthumanistic and transhumanistic theories and views in literature, my sense of hope and commitment is connected to our evolution as a species. Humans, like the concept of hope, are evolving. For better or worse. Hope can exist as long as we continue to kindle the fire and as long as we keep adapting to our disintegrating environment. Through these theories, there is hope that our species will continue on. The feeling of hope can ignite action, but currently it is too passive for our survival. Now, we must stop hoping and start acting. We must take action to improve our communities.

If we read and think about all of these new possible ideas, we will create a generation capable of being open-minded and not clouded by the politics and human emotions that currently hinder our society from furthering advancements in environmental justice.

With these theories and literature in mind we will now be able to think about comportment, immanence, and finally transcendence.
